Create Career Success with 3 Steps to Positive Thinking.

Are you at a crossroads in your career?  As a career coach, one thing every client I work with has in common is they are all going through a major change in their life.  When you are in career transition, whether you’re working on your resume, interviewing, networking or salary negotiating skills, it is so important to maintain a healthy balance during change so you don’t crash.  Remember, being successful includes maintaining a healthy balance in every area of your life.  So, in this week’s blog, I would like to give you the tools you’ll need to create career goals and overcome fears in order to achieve your goals.

 

I have a story to tell you.  Before I get started … I want you to know… that everything I’m about to tell you about my life is what led me to be in this positive place.  I am living proof of how using your own personal power by choosing positive thinking, can change your life. 

 

Here's my story.  I discovered the inner strength and personal power within me many years ago when I lost my job, I lost my house and to top that off, my dog of 15 years died.  I remember sitting there as I was realizing that almost every area of my life had changed within 1 month.  Was I scared?  You bet I was.  It was at that moment, I decided I had to clean house, mentally and physically.  Get rid of negative people in my life and surround myself with positive energy to simplify my life.  I was starting over.  My life was a new adventure.  What I didn’t know was I was about to face, within another month my biggest challenge ever.  The phone rang, I heard a voice say “Are you sitting down?”  I remember thinking “Oh God, no, not my son, Max.”  I asked “is he alive?”  He said barely.  My 7 year old son was diagnosed with bone cancer and if we didn’t start the most aggressive, experimental chemo therapy within 12 hours he’d die.  For me, it was incomprehensible that my happy little boy who already was challenged with Cerebral Palsy and in a wheel chair at the age of 7 was now fighting for his life with bone cancer.  It took me a very long time to tell this story without tears. I was already aware of the effects that positive thinking could have on my life.  I also knew that if I didn’t start practicing positive think right away, I would not be able to make it through this to be there for my son.

 

As I looked back and reflected on my life, I began to see that the most positive way to approach life is to realize that change is constant and the difficult times we face are not only opportunities for growth, but are there as a reminder that we are in the middle of a life lesson, a stepping stone to becoming our authentic self and by doing so, become much stronger, more compassionate human beings.  What lessons are you resisting?

 

Through the challenges I faced with my son, I began to learn the true meaning of acceptance, patience and courage.  Because I see this as a spiritual gift, I know deep down inside, you already know this too.  Personal power is only demonstrating your ability to create reality.  In other words, you have the ability to create your own reality.  And it starts in your mind.  Your vision becomes your reality.  What are you thinking about these days?

 

It’s true!  Some of us may experience power leaks that rob us of this ability.  They come in the form of discouragement, disappointments, loss and rejection, just to name a few.  It’s how you deal with it that will make the difference in your life.  Are you going to challenge your own mind with thoughts that create destructive and non-productive actions that will drain you?  Or, are you going to challenge your mind with thoughts of empowerment to take control with positive actions to get what you want in your life?  Guess what?  It’s your choice.

 

One question, I am asked so often with clients faced with career transition is “How do I know I’m making the right decision?”  Let me share with you a little wisdom I’ve learned over the years.  When you act on fear or guilt, you are probably not making the right choices, you are simply reacting.  And when you act on fear, you are giving your power away.  It’s only when you act on love, that you are making a choice and are being true to yourself.  So, my question to you is this?  How are you feeling or what are you thinking at the time you are making a decision?

 

It’s so important for us all to think positive during life’s journey.  Why?  Because your subconscious mind works just like a computer.  It doesn’t know right from wrong.  It simply does what it is told.  Technically, when you practice positive thinking, you are programming or reprogramming your subconscious mind to believe what you’ve been telling yourself and by doing so, many studies have proven it changes the endorphins in your entire system and you will feel positive about life.  And, you will attract positive things into your life.  This is the law of physics called cause and effect.  I listened to my first positive thinking tape over 20 years ago.  I read about it in a book titled “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway,” by Susan Jeffers.”  I read “listen to the tape for 30 days and you will start feeling positive about your life.”  It took me 45 days, but it worked.

 

Since my son survived cancer, I developed a 3-step positive thinking technique that has worked so well for me and my clients to literally overcome fears and master success during life’s biggest challenges, while becoming true to ourselves.

 

Let me share with you the "Recipe for Mastering Your Road Map to Career Success" with 3-steps to positive thinking.

 

1. Create a list and write down your goals

2. Release Your Goals

3. Your Maintenance Program

 

STEP #1 Create a list and write down your goals

Write down your goals and any fears you need to overcome to achieve those goals.  Keep the sentences short and simple.  Write them as if they are already a reality.

For Example: Let’s say your goal is to become a corporate trainer.  And, let’s say your fear is a fear of public speaking.  Your affirmation would go like this: “I love my corporate trainer job.  And, I’m really good at it.” Then, visualize yourself being successful, content and proud of yourself after doing such a great job.  If you know what job you’re interested in, go ahead and use that company name in your affirmation.  In my mind, by the time I interviewed for the job, I was already successfully working there.  I got the job! 

I did the same before I started working for Orange County Public Schools.  And, I got that teaching job as well.  Here’s another affirmation.  “I have all the tools within me to be successful and reach my full potential, doing what I love to do and getting paid really well for it.”   Would you like this affirmation?  Here’s another affirmation. 

Example: “I am always in the right place at the right time.”  I have too many significant stories to mention them.  For me, it was like guardian angels coming out of nowhere.  And at times, you recognize when you are the guardian angel to someone else.  What’s really cool is when you recognize it because you’ve been confirming it for yourself.

One of the first 3 steps in Suzi Orman’s book “9 Steps to Financial Freedom.” is “think positive about your money.”  Suzi tells a story of being poor growing up as a child and how she used to dream of making a lot of money.  While waitressing and going to college she started an affirmation that said “I make $10K a month.  Within a year from graduating college she made that $10K.  As Many other motivational speakers, she contributes positive thinking to her recipe for mastering her road map to her career success today.

 

STEP #2: Release Your Goals

Before going to sleep at night or first thing in the morning, say your affirmations, in your mind, to yourself, 7 times each, once a day, every day for 30 to 45 days (it took me 45 days.)  You will know when it’s working for you because you will absolutely feel positive about what you affirm for yourself. 

 

What is so wonderful is you don’t even have to believe it will work for you right now, or when you start, but you do have to do these steps for the 30-45 days.  And, I promise you, you will believe it and will absolutely feel positive about your life.

 

STEP #3: Your Maintenance Program

If and when you start recognizing your negative thoughts creeping back into your mind, say your affirmations to yourself 7 times each a couple times more times or whenever you feel the need.  Eventually, 3 months will go by and you’ll recognize the positive change in you without saying your affirmations.

 

Here’s a great way to balance mental and physical exercise together.  Do you work out?  If your answer is “yes,” this tip is for you.  Say your affirmations in your mind, to yourself, 7 times each while running on the treadmill or doing your routine aerobic exercise each day. 

Maybe, you don’t work out but you go for walks.  What a great time to say your affirmations.  Any rollerbladers out there?  This is another great time to say your affirmations.

 

Remember these 3 words:  Ask, Release, Do!!

ASK = Say your affirmations

RELEASE= Forget about them for the day, let your subconscious take over.

DO = Go on with your day and continue working toward your goals.

 

You can also record your affirmations and listen to them in the car driving or with headphones while you exercise.  These are great ways to balance mental and physical exercise without changing a minute of your time each day!

 

 THE RESULTS ARE MIRACULOUS!

 

As you follow this 3-step program and work toward your goals and visualize yourself being successful, you will begin to start recognizing the doors of opportunity open up to you, one door at a time, until one day, you’ve realized that taking control of your thoughts and through your own positive thinking that the many hopes, dreams and wishes that, in the past, you never thought were possible for you, have already come true.  You mastered your own road map to success!  This is a very exciting place to be in your life.  This is how it happened for me and is the reason I wanted to share it with you.  I know it will work for you, too.
